To choose a Maldives island for vacation is very simple, isn’t it? Just use a Maldives resorts map. You are sure every island is a small part of one big universally recognized paradise. However, it is not really like that. I would like to share the information that we had not found online in preparing for our trip to Fihalhohi Island.

Well, let’s start again: to choose a Maldives island for vacation is very simple, if your only criteria are palm trees and gold beaches in “Bounty” style. Take any island. Oh, you want more, do you? Perhaps the rich and living coral reef? For a reasonable price, this mix is impossible on the Maldives.

The underwater map of the world has few great snorkeling locations. We constantly look for new places, learning about the Seychelles, Belize, or the Bahamas, but every time, we return to the Maldives.

It seems like snorkeling does not require special training and expensive equipment: just buy a mask and fins, and you can admire underwater life as long as you want or can. However, the incredibly beautiful and extremely fragile global coral reef ecosystem is threatened with extinction, so for a healthy coral reef, you will have to search. Unfortunately, in most cases, it will not be located near your home.

Everything is nearly perfect on this tiny tropical island located about 67 km from the equator in the Indian Ocean. It has a beautiful coral reef with a very active underwater life, exotic jungles among beach and garden villas, white sand, blue sky, emerald water, fantastic sunrises and sunsets‚ÄĒeverything you imagine when someone says the magical word “Maldives.” However, chances are that excluding sunrises and sunsets, the rest of the local beauty will be destroyed in the near future. Why?
